Tropical reclaimed hardwoods are straight and make good rustic edging, garden features and retaining walls where an attractive ‘seasoned’ look is required. They are extremely hard, durable, strong and suitable for load bearing applications.

They do not need treating and have attractive colour and surface texture however as grade ‘B’ may have some  splits. Existing for many years due to their durability they are made from a mixture of species   including Jarrah, Ekki, Karri, Angelim Vermelho, Angelim Pedra, Cupiuba, Piquia & Maritime Pine.

Beech Reclaimed Railway Sleepers

Beech Reclaimed Railway Sleepers

Reclaimed, these are very durable, originally Creosoted and made from ‘seasoned’ Beech. They have quite a clean appearance and are very good for duties where strength is required, for example retaining walls and bridges. We always try to stock the highest grades which are generally straight with good surfaces.

Reclaimed Beech sleepers are very stable and unlikely to deform or split further. Beech sleepers offer   exceptionally good value for money and are heavier and stronger than softwood types, thus helping to   ensure a stable, durable and strong structure when in place.

Grade A

 Approx. (mm) 2600 x 250 x 150 ( Hardwood - Originally Creosoted) - £24.00 ex VAT

New Tanalised (Brown) Hardwood Alder/Aspen/Birch

New Tanalised (Brown) Hardwood

These are light weight hardwood sleepers, ideal for an attractive ‘fitted’ look, being accurately sawn to size. They are an attractive golden brown, durable, straight and relatively light to handle unless new and wet.

Features utilising these sleepers have an ‘engineered’ look many find appealing. Their ‘flatness’ makes them ideal for steps or a base for a structure and they are readily laid edge on edge or flat on flat. It is wise to use a non-permeable ground sheet between the sleeper and soil.

Alder/Aspen/Birch Hardwood

Approx. (mm) 2400 x 200 x 100 (Hardwood) - £18.00 ex VAT

New Grade ‘A’ Untreated Oak (natural colour) Sleepers

New Grade ‘A’ Untreated Oak

Although accurately machined and an attractive golden brown when first produced they quite rapidly turn a light grey unless treated and are prone to warping and splitting.

Unlike reclaimed ‘Rustic’ Oak types new Oak sleepers are likely to move after installation. This is partly because they are usually made from ‘Green Oak’ which may not be properly seasoned. They are more durable than new Tanalised Pine if properly treated prior to placement.

We categorically recommend new oak should always be treated and a non-permeable ground sheet is recommended between the sleeper and soil.
